Lying to Grandma

Yesterday SS15 had a football game. It wasn't a regular schedule game it was a JV game. I had asked him Monday morning if he was playing in it and he said his coach hadn't asked him yet. (He's a rookie on the team but in grade 11 so not technically JV). Fast forward to yesterday morning and DH's mom texted SS15 to ask when his next game was because she wanted to go watch and he said he didn't know, he would let her know. Come to find out through the team football app that he found out on Tuesday that he was playing yesterday. So he lied to his Grandma.

Who is this kid? He has completely flipped out- I never imagined he would turn out this way. My family keeps staying optimistic, "he will come around, he loves you." "he will at least miss the kids" "don't you think he wants to be a part of the wedding?"

I am not optimistic. I texted him yesterday telling him all was forgiven, not to let this mistake define his relationship with his dad and siblings. He didn't text back. DH also messaged him saying it was time to come home and face the music. It's not going to get any easier. SS15 didn't reply.

He's gone.

Re: Lying to Grandma

I'm sure SS15 lied so he could avoid having to explain what is going on.

He would not have had the opportunity to even talk with his grandma at the game- so that's not it.

I would tend to agree. I met SD when she was 12 and SS was 17. Kept hoping beyond hope that things would change. They actually got worse. I wish I had fully disengaged/let go back then rather than "wait until they're adults."  They are the adults any logical person would expect they would  become.
