Update from Merryville

It’s been quiet in the Merry household as DH and I go on living our best lives.

DH went into euphoric mode after a recent call with SS. I don’t listen in on their calls but I couldn’t help but hear DH’s over-the-top laughter and praise. DH and SS have always engaged in bragging and one upsmanship, with DH always letting SS “win.” I can’t stand the fake relationship, but it’s all DH has and I’m not involved. At one point DH told SS we were looking at a new car. Total fabrication. No idea what that was about other than “look at ME.”

DH told me that SS cut off contact with SD too. Her bossiness and “advice” has always been difficult for all of us, but apparently she’s now targeted SS’s SO. SD can’t stand competition and I guess the SO is the most recent target. She’s running out of targets.

Again DH said how much he misses his kids. Again I suggested he look into direct flights to Skidville. Again nothing will happen.

Re: Update from Merryville

He probably knows, deep down, that his "relationships" with his kids are inauthentic and based on smoke and mirrors. Otherwise he'd probably buy that airplane ticket.

And that simple fact saves the marriage.

Re: Update from Merryville

Seems like we're all living different (and some not-so-different) versions of the same lives.

When someone shows you who they are, believe them.

Re: Update from Merryville

Yes marriage saving is living AWAY from the SKID-ville. I shuttered when one SKID thought he could move him and his then girlfriend into our basement or the other SKID thought we might need "help" as we get older. Ummmmm yeah no. I'd hire help before taking that "deal." One just moved super far away so it's really just once a year to deal with behavior. The other is a couple states away and DH can go visit him whenever he likes. Me? I don't miss em' one bit. So much work, no reward and the behavior problems of adult males.
