Exhausted, angry husband
He's heading home from the SD visit, this time seeming more exhausted (and angry) than usual.
Didn't have much at all to say about SD and SIL (he will later, I'm sure), although he seemed to enjoy seeing the grands.
What was particularly upsetting to him is that, because of finances, SD and family (family of 7) left their rental house and put a small RV on property they bought. I pictured one of those big RVs; DH said, no, it is only the size of about two large pickup trucks. I'm assuming the financial issue has to do with SD having the latest baby in a hospital (she's had the rest at home).
So, they are living in a tiny RV and "will break ground" on their house in the dead of winter (which means they will not be breaking ground on their house until next April or May). One child (the troubled adopted sister of SIL) is in an inpatient facility for mental health issues (they better hope she isn't released before their house is built) while four children under the age of five are crammed into one space in the RV. This situation will continue until at least this time next year. It doesn't even sound legal to me. I honestly wonder if they're all not going to the bathroom outside. You can't make it up!!
DH said they have to take the kids to places like bowling alleys and libraries, etc. FOR AIR CONDITIONING > to cool off; otherwise, they spend a lot of time outside (still hot, but at least not cramped). I think they also head over to BM's (air-conditioned) apartment, which sort of makes me laugh.
DH was so uncomfortable (physically)--of course, he stayed in a rental.
SD seems to have taken on the belief that to follow God, you must suffer, that this is all God's doing, including the pregnancies--each one of which puts about 40+ pounds on her, which she then rapidly takes off (BM will NOT have a fat child. . . that is one of the top commandments). It's the yo-yo thing, which has to be hard on her body.
I'm going to have to mentally prepare myself for when DH decompresses after he gets home. I honestly don't know what to say. SD is (supposedly) a well-educated person. That she has chosen a life of apparently "suffering for God" herself is one thing; to put her children in that situation is another. I can't imagine.
But it's not my circus, never has been. I'm just shaking my head and hoping DH is ok.

Wow, I'd be exhausted and angry, too. When does he get home. I hope you have all your phrases ready: hmmm, wow, gee, want a drink? golly, holy cow, etc. if it hasn't already happened, be prepared for the financial requests(s). I feel sorry for him.

What’s this weirdo cult thing they follow? I’m not religious but was raised in the United Church. She believes her finances and children are all tests from God? Wtf?

Wow, with all the disagreeable and unlikable personality traits SD27&29 have, at least they aren't popping out babies that they can't take care of. Your SK's story reminds me that it could always be worse, much worse. When The Diablas do have kids I am sure there will be no end to the self-absorption of how haaaaaaard life is for them. Of course their problems are soooo much more difficult and soooo much more important than anyone else's, as always. I just hope all their problems and romantic relationships keep them busy and away from us.
What a tragedy for those kids.

I didn't have to ask him if he wanted a drink. 
He helped himself!
I've been doing the, "uh-huhs," and "yeas" so far as he talks about the grands. He usually decompresses a bit, lets things gel in his brain, and then unloads about his daughter and sil within a few days. Then I'll need a drink.

Super fanatical evangelical Christian but seemed to have missed the boat on the real teachings of Jesus (as far as I understand them; I'm not religious). Always talking about the end of times as if they're right around the corner. (Why build a house if we are a few months away from the end of times?)

Geographical distance has been a blessing. Aside from what DH tells me, I know nothing about the grands, can hardly remember their names or which one is which. And it's going to stay that way.
It is a tragedy for the kids. It's been a worse tragedy for the adopted sister of SIL. She was treated like a third wheel. They were very strict with her. You could tell SD couldn't stand her. Constant eyerolls around her, etc.
When she was 13 and all her friends had iPads, she was "allowed" to have this pink childish-looking iPad "thing" that you might buy for a 7 year old. Yes, she had issues before they took her in, but I think they helped exacerbate it all. Now she's in an institution and I don't see any semblance of a normal future for her. Strange that their prayers didn't help with that situation.
