For those up to date on what is going on, my SD is moving into BM's boyfriend's house. I say moving because they started moving in May and still as of yesterday are not moved in. They are moving almost 3 hours away to a completely different state. So obviously SD is going to a new school. Since we found out this information in March I believe we have asked BM what school SD is going to go to. Finally in May, she gave the answer and we have not asked a single question until last week since school starts on 8/18. We asked if she had the information on who SD's teacher is going to be, she said no, but they were waiting on info from SD's old school.
Well, SD goes back tomorrow so DH sent an email to the new school's principal introducing himself and the principal said SD is not enrolled at her school and she even checked the district. So obviously DH and I are like uh, wtf?! So DH messaged BM relaying the information, but in the meantime we messaged SD's old principal to ask if he could tell us where SD's records were sent. He responded back fairly quickly to say they have not received a request from any school for SD's records and if we could tell him what school he should be expecting them from.
After that BM responded simply saying she would call the school.
So yeah, SD is not enrolled in school and school starts in 8 days. Awesome.

Gads. Do you think BM will try to homeschool her?

That's very irresponsible. Why is she dragging her feet on this? Do you have an insight about it? I can't make sense of why a parent would drop the ball on something as important as school.

Before I retired I worked at an elementary school. Every year, on the first day, there would be people waiting to register their child. They don’t see the need to register beforehand. They figure — it’s a public school. There will be a seat for the child whether you register before or on day one. It’s a slight minority of parents, but they exist.

That makes sense, notarelative. JRI, I like your theory. I don't know the background of this BM too well, so I wondered if it was malicious or not. Sounds like it is more due to neglect, laziness or uncertainty about where they will live.

To answer everyone's responses, basically BM dropped the ball. BM today messaged and said they are having issues proving residency right now. Which does not surprise me since BM is not working, they moved into her bf's house, and I am sure bf is paying all the bills. It really shouldn't of been hard because BM's bf has owned this house for years and BM has been "moving" to his house since end of May. My guess is she wasn't proactive or she could of easily updated her address to bfs and had it sent to his house. UNLESS he is paying all the bills and so nothing is in her name? Either way it is neglect and laziness. I don't think BM and bf will have a relationship problem until they officially move in to his house. Which you would think would be soon since school starts in six days now
EDIT: BM mentioned needing something notarized so I spent less than 2 minutes going to the district site, clicking enroll & seeing the guidelines that very clearly spelled out that since BM does not own the home or rent the home, she needs to get a notarized affidavit from her bf about living there. It was literally the first step on the districts’s list of what to do to enroll SD. So now I am guessing she didn’t start any of the process until today.

I'm sure you are correct.. BM has not updated her driver's license.. partially because it is difficult to prove your residence when you don't have any lease or utilities in your name. Obviously.. she has not had the sense of urgency necessary... and it's also frustrating because they can literally enroll homeless kids somehow.. so she should be able to have her BF sign something attesting to the fact that she and her children do, live there.. unless it's some thing where he would be in trouble for having them do that?

It is incredibly frustrating and just further proves how unimportant BM thinks school is. So on the district site, if you do not own a home or rent an apartment/home then you need this form filled out by the owner of the home you are staying at and have it notarized. It took me less than 2 minutes to find the information out, the district could not of made it easier. I didn't even mention how we had to tell BM yesterday we still have not received in the mail the written mailed notice we are to receive at least 30 days before her move.
I know you can't understand crazy, but I just want to know what she has been doing for months. She hasn't been working, her bf works out of town during the work week, she has had only one child for 10 weeks of the 12 since school let out and she isn't moved, she hasn't enrolled at least SD in school, but I imagine both are not enrolled, etc. To top it all off she hasn't even made the appointment for SD's physical and SD surprise surprise did not show up in BM's old state for her therapy appointment this morning, but then BM made a new appointment 2 weeks from now on a day SD has school at her new school almost 3 hours away. It is just maddening.

Could the holdup be on BF’s part? Could he be reconsidering the move? It’s one thing to date someone with kids? It’s another to move a non working mom with two kids (who only gets support for one) into your home and be expected to foot expenses.
I’m thinking that SD will start school in the same place. — could be wrong, but that’s my thought.
