Since Chef's shoulder surgery, I've volunteered to help him put in air conditioners for the state via a lower income program. Yesterday, Chef ran into a semi retired HVAC pro. Was putting in an A/C for his sig other who qualified. The guy is about my age (mid sixties) and I guess he's a whiz with HVAC electrical. He lead us upstairs to where he wanted the unit. Chef and "Henri" were catching up on old times as Henri worked for a competitor HVAC company back in the day. Frankly i was kind of annoyed because we had a full schedule and other appointments to move on to. Twenty minutes into the conversation, Henri mentions that I am cute! About 3 or 4 times. He did this in front of Chef and out of ear shot of his sig other.
Well I hate to admit it was flattering. Chef had NO response. I'm pretty sure he rolled his eyes. Chef hasn't complimented me in about 20 years. All he does is correct me for stupid stuff that doesn't matter "you shouldn't tell a customer that we are out of appliance rated extension cords" and goes on an on about it, ranting it into the ground.
I was so shocked at the compliment, again because Chef NEVER compliments me due to being a narcissist, I couldn't do anything but kind of change the subject. It probably made Chef angry that Henri complimented me as he tried to pick a fight the rest of the day.

It's a shame Chef doesn't compliment you any more, your age shouldn't matter - I am 68 and DH is 62 and we still compliment each other from time to time. Have you drawn it to Chef's attention that he doesn't compliment you, only criticises?

Girl, I'm so mad for you. Our partners should make us feel the best! I mean, just the other day, my husband sent me a screen shot of me going in the house on our ring doorbell and saying how good/thin I looked (am trying to lose weight.. far far away from goals!). I know I'm not gorgeous... I know I'm old and heavy.. but my husband makes a point of telling me I'm beautiful to him... and honestly.. it's free to make someone feel good about themselves isn't it???
Glad you got that compliment though... even if we love our partners.. it's nice to see the world sees us too.

I feel you my DH never compliments, or touches me for that matter. I choose to stay with this for now because I have sh!t I want to do and can't afforf it without him. Kudos on the compliment, all I can assume is these weak men don't want us knowing how good we really are because they know once we leave that's it for them.

Kes, it would be like trying to reason with the BM in your life. He is a bait and switch narcissist. Plain and simple. He expects to constantly win praise for himself ONLY. I believe Jefferson Fisher nails it. Praise or Provoke.
