We have a new Chiweenie in the house! He’s 4 and has had something of a tough little life. He’s SUPER SHY. Won’t let us get close, but he watches us constantly. I can work with that as I discover what his high-value treats are. He did let me scratch his chin for a few seconds today, so a win.
The other dog in the household is a Pittie mix. Sweetest girl ever. She is Miss Congeniality on steroids. Never met a stranger, dog or human. When we introduced them yesterday (parallel walks, no real interacting) Little Guy got a little growly and defensive. We’ll do the walk thing again today. We do have a way of keeping them separate in the house until we know for sure that they will get along.
DH, loves dogs but doesn’t always get their language, wants to just get on with it and let them both out in the backyard (fenced). I’m not doing that until I’m pretty sure it won’t be too much for Little Guy.
Ideas for a smooth introduction?

Sounds like you're doing all the right things - it's natural that the little one will be a bit wary of his new big sister, but I would continue to introduce them slowly and carefully - giving some treats as an incentive! If you trust your big girl not to be aggressive to the chiweenie then I think it'll soon be safe to let them sniff each other. I'm sure they'll end up the best of friends.

The big sister goes right to full-on play, no stopping for sniffing. She’s a party girl. Little guy got along well with dogs and cats in his foster home, so i am hopeful.
