Eff Off/Forn Friday

TGIF!!!
What a week this has been! Monday was a holiday, which means I have to cram 5 days worth of work into 4. Always fun...Not!

Eff off to:
• King Pita. Dude. You don’t need to remind me to send out reminders. I am the Reminder Czarina. Part of my job is tracking upcoming upgrades, installs, and outages and sending a consolidated list every effing Friday to let the team know what's happening over the weekend. Go play catch-up on your 20+ thousand unread emails.

• People already whining about Winter. Fall doesn't even start for 17 days. Sheesh. Funnel that energy elsewhere.

• Rigid cardboard boxes. In my rush to get out the door yesterday, I did not notice the umbrella that had fallen over and did an amazing imitation of the Tasmanian Devil flailing arms to ward off a swarm of mosquitoes before I crash landed on that rigid cardboard box. The box did not suffer at all. I, on the other hand, have a beautimous dark purple bruise on the side of my thigh and a lightly sprained wrist. I know, Mom: I need to stop charging everywhere. But I'm always in a hurry to get where I'm going. Life is happening!

Forn Friday

Forn is a cross between 'food' and 'p0rn'.

We only have a very few late-season blueberries, but the wild raspberries are going strong. Nothing like taking a quick break from work to run outside, pick fresh berries, and add them to my breakfast. Yogurt, cottage cheese, waffles... Yum! If I have some stale bread, I throw together a mini bread pudding (microwaveable) and drizzle on some honey or syrup. Other times, I get a handful for a sweet mouthful of berry goodness as dessert.

What's your favorite way to enjoy fresh berries?

Re: Eff Off/Forn Friday

My mom had a strawberry trifle she used to make.. Layers of strawberries, whip cream, vanilla pudding and angels food cake. I like to make my late moms recipes as a way to remember her.. Although I haven't made this trifle in a few years. You just add the ingredients together in layers in a pretty, see through dish.

I make the same trifle!
Strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, bblackberries, or a combination of some/all. It's delicious and light.

You got me at fresh berries picked on a quick vine raid while playing hookie from work.

Re: Eff Off/Forn Friday

Fresh berries ... are generally eaten the minute they're picked although strawberries from the garden are sometimes split in two, drizzled with lime juice and liberally sprinkled with vanilla sugar. Mix. The sugar melts into one of the most divine syrups I have ever tasted. Serve with whipped cream ... or not.

The most memorable raspberries I ever had were eaten in a former Abbey in the Alps where they did table d'hôte. The dessert they brought me was a huge bowl of creamy homemade fromage frais dotted with raspberries from their garden. Sheer perfection!

Apart from the above, blackberries tend to go into apple and blackberry crumble, though I have been known to make blackberry cordial. Also, any berries that come my way are highly likely to end up in a pavlova.

Winterglow, I want to go on a foodie vacation with you!

Re: Eff Off/Forn Friday

WOT?! No more forn?!

I have unpopped corn in my kitchen and am lacking imagination as to what to do with it. Sooo, would you mind sharing your favourite popcorn recipes, be they sweet or savoury?

Please?

Winterglow

Air popped, douse with melted Lurpak butter while the popcorn is freshly hot, then cover it liberally with Old Bay seasoning.  When you think there is enough Old Bay seasoning on it, add more.  Mix well. Enjoy.

Yummy stuff!

I suggest that you enjoy it with a favorite cocktail.  When I was heavy into this popcorn recipe my go to cocktail was a stiffly poured very tall Salty Dog.

While living in Morocco, we enjoyed many home movie nights with this routine.

Re: Eff Off/Forn Friday

Sounds great. I'll try that as soon as the seasoning gets here! Thanks, Rags!

Re: Eff Off/Forn Friday

From the list of ingredients (a variety of peppers among other things) I'm pretty sure I will!
